Fill out this application to be considered for a Spring 2024 BUILD Literacy Mentor position. Before submitting an application, read the BUILD Mentor Job Description (web version) and application due dates. For the short answers below, we recommend writing and saving your responses in a separate document before inputting, as answers will be lost if you view a prior page. In Spring 2024, we expect mentoring will take place in person, at school and community sites in Oakland and Berkeley. Masks will be required to be worn and COVID vaccination records up to date.

New Applicants: Fill out all questions including your projected schedule. Make sure to give yourself enough time to get to or from campus to your BUILD site. Please keep in mind site times range from 2pm-5pm, all requiring 1.5 hours at least. 

Returning Mentors: Fill out all fields except the “Short Answers” at the end.

II. Mentoring Job Information

What would be an ideal site for you, considering age group preferences and languages that you speak:

 

Below is the list of available BUILD sites for this spring. If you have a preference, you may list it (or you may list “No Preference” and we will consider your answers above). Note that many placements are determined mostly by availability.  These are the BUILD sites for this school year.

Note: If you are hired for Work-Study pay, you must be available at least 2 days/week at one site. Most sites are also requiring Volunteer and Units mentors to also be available at least 2 days/week.

If you are hired through Work Study, you must be available to mentor at least 2 days/week. Almost all sites host BUILD after school between 3:30-5:30pm, 3-5pm, or 2:30-4pm. There may be a very limited number of daytime mentoring positions available.
