Legislative Assistant Intern
The intern will research and draft legislation that tackles homelessness and housing inequality, safeguards health and wellness, and furthers the interest of the people. Additionally, the intern will have two semester long projects that will culminate into a comprehensive policy item. Ideally, this intern wants to be a public servant, elected official, and/or wants to work on the political and front facing side of government. Interns should be organized, have strong interpersonal skills, and be able to handle phone calls/meetings with constituents.

Youth Services Intern
The Youth, School, and Community Partnership Division is committed to the healthy development of youth and is focused on developing positive opportunities, programs and partnerships that will provide children and youth with skills, knowledge, support, and resources leading to healthy and productive lives. Our programs, services, and initiatives support a community where government, families, schools, law enforcement, and organizations work together to create an environment conducive to support young people, their learning, and their success.

Outreach Intern
Two PSI interns will be heavily integrated into the EBSC Outreach Team. The Outreach Team provides interns with the opportunity to learn about the wide range of services that EBSC offers to the community (immigration, health/COVID-19 vaccination, rental assistance, etc) as well as engage directly with community members. The tasks that PSI Interns will be expected to assist with include: attending in-person tabling events at local flea markets and churches, assisting with Zoom workshops and Health Fairs organized by the outreach team, participating in presentations of vaccines, Know Your Rights, etc, creating scripts and copy for promotional materials in the form of videos, social media posts, and flyers, assisting in the creation and editing of videos and video translations, contacting potential community partners, and phone banking. Two interns would be responsible for the tasks listed above.
Support Services Intern
Our Support Services PSI intern mainly assists the Support Services Program with client referrals. This involves speaking with clients to understand their needs (apart from immigration legal services), finding appropriate resources for them, and then following up to make sure the clients receive the services they are entitled to. This work provides an opportunity to help community members with pressing needs and to learn more about the ecosystem of resources available to asylum-seekers and other immigrants in the Bay Area. One intern would be responsible for the tasks listed above.
Volunteer Coordinator Intern
EBSC’s volunteer program is vital to the success of our organization. The volunteer coordinator will be responsible for interviewing volunteers, checking volunteers applications, orienting new volunteers and having close communication with both EBSC’s staff and volunteers and learning about EBSC’s legal programs and services to pair volunteers and interns with the relevant staff. The volunteer coordinator will be in charge of answering questions from volunteers and professors, as well as doing outreach to recruit more volunteers. One intern would be fully responsible for the tasks listed above.
Oakland Literacy Coalition
Oakland Literacy Coalition Intern
The intern will engage with our small and dedicated team to advance our coalition’s mission of working together to ensure that every Oakland child learns and loves to read. The intern will support projects across program areas: 1) The Literacy and Justice for All Symposium is our annual conference for educators and literacy practitioners from across the Bay Area and beyond to engage in professional learning, collaboration, and critical conversations about the intersections between literacy and social justice. We also hold trainings throughout the year for literacy providers to deepen their expertise and adopt best practices into their work with students. 2) The Reading Everywhere program works to connect Oakland students and families with books and literacy resources, like our Oakland Reads website, is a tool for families and caregivers to understand what reading skills young children are learning from birth through elementary school and easy and effective ways to practice them. 3) The School Library Partnerships program connects OUSD school libraries with resources and support and builds awareness about the value of school libraries and the challenges they face. Through the Books Kids Want to Read program we raise funding and purchase new, high interest books for school libraries each fall. We also help recruit community volunteers to support in school libraries.

Somos Familia
Community Education Intern
Somos Familia fills the gap in resources for LGBTQ+ Latinx youth and their families by building community and creating our own media to open the doors of acceptance and understanding. The Community Education Intern will play a strong supporting role to the community education committee and the Family Organizer in all aspects of our workshops and training materials and sessions with schools and community organizations. The intern will work closely with the Executive Director to develop a youth program aimed at understanding the current resources and community needs for the LGBTQ+ community within the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD). As an intern, you will focus on conducting landscape analysis and research to assess the current state of education for BIPOC LGBTQ+ students in OUSD. This will involve gathering data, conducting interviews, and analyzing existing policies and practices. The intern’s main goal will be to interview, train, and develop the leadership skills of OUSD students, empowering them to advocate for and create policies that protect and support the LGBTQ+ community within their schools. By engaging directly with students, the intern will play a crucial role in fostering inclusivity and promoting equity within the district. This internship offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of LGBTQ+ students and contribute to creating safer and more supportive environments within Oakland school.
UC Berkeley Local Government and Community Relations

Local Government & Community Relations Intern
UC Berkeley’s local government and community relations team serves as the link between the University and its East Bay neighbors. Our intern will support the Local Government and Community Relations (LGCR) staff on implementing a multi-pronged community engagement strategy, including events coordination and supporting the Chancellor’s Community Partnership Fund as well as intern assisting staff with the two major initiatives of the Chancellor’s he Cal Move-Out Program and Happy Neighbors. As needed, our intern will support LGCR’s community engagement, research, and event hosting related to the Berkeley Global Campus at Richmond Bay. The Chancellor’s Community Partnership Fund (CCPF) supports projects and programs that establish, extend and/or strengthen collaborative partnerships between UC Berkeley and the wider Berkeley community — LGCR administers the Fund. Our intern will assist with community outreach, communications and administration of the application process for the Fund. The Cal Move-Out Initiative and Cooperative Reuse furniture and household items recycling program are the products of partnership between UC Berkeley and the City of Berkeley focused on reducing the quantity of furniture, electronics and other unwanted items left by students at the end of the academic year. (Check out CalMoveOut.com) Primary responsibilities include coordinating a student outreach effort with on-campus student groups, identifying new community or business partners to collaborate in active recycling efforts, working with the City of Berkeley, and implementing a social media campaign that targets Cal students, and supporting the student-led effort to plan and implement Cooperative Reuse in May. Ideally, the LGCR intern will help design and implement a campus-wide outreach plan to update the community partnership database, UC in CA: Impact Beyond Campus Borders.
